Default Using Internal as External

I need to hook up an old hard drive to my laptop so i can wipe it clean, the only problem is it has Windows XP on it and most likley a virus of some sort. What should i do? am i safe to hook it up or will it kill my computer?

It would be a slight risk. But I think if you just plug it in and immediately choose to format it, you should be ok.

Just make sure you have somekind of AntiVirus protection running in the background of your laptop. Almost all viruses need to be executed somehow and formatting would not do it so like surge said it's a very slim chance.

You could always use Killdisk on it, so you wouldn't have to risk booting up/getting infected .
