Default USB stick free space

I have a 32GB USB stick, formatted it's 29.5 - but when completely empty (just formatted + view hidden files/folders on) it says 29.4 free of 29.5. Just wondering why it could be doing that (does it on multiple comps) and if I can get back that ~100MB (perhaps a full format?).

Hi,

Usually a portion of the disk's space is allocated for the storage of file structure information. This might explain explain why only 29.4GB is free of 29.5GB.

You could give it a formatting if you want to see if it makes a difference.

I think windows doesnt show decimals in MB's beyond 1/10 or something... that could be 2.49 of 2.5

Just be sure to format it to NTFS. FAT32 sucks.

I think that's what's happening too.

Go to the drive properties, and check the space via the byte count. That'll give you a more accurate reading
