I recently upgrade my WD 40GB USB External HDD to a WD250GB HDD.

My PC is running Vista Home BTW. The new HDD DOES show up just fine under System Devices.

However, it does NOT show up anywhere under Windows Explorer. The previous HDD had no issues.

The new HDD's jumper was on CS (cable select) originally. I tried it without the jumper in place as well to no avail.

How do I get my new External HDD to be recognized under Windows Explorer ??

TIA!

You could try going there by guessing the drive letter (e.g. 'F:'), put that in the explorer address bar and see if you can access it that way, I wouldn't know about fixing the issue in the long run though, unless you find what driver letter it is and making a shortcut to it.

Ok. I found the fix.

I went under -->Computer Managment --> Storage --> Disk Management.

The new HDD was NOT yet Initialized or Formatted.

I simply Initialized it, assigned it a Drive Letter and then Formatted it.

Works great now!
