Usb detects device on pc but not laptop

I have a DreamGear PS2 PC adapter. It plugs in usb and has a plug for a ps2 controller to go into. But anyways, it automatically picks it up and installs it on my pc, but when i plug it into my laptop it doesn't pick it up at all, but i can tell its giving the controller power because there is a working light in the controller. All the ports are working as well. I have even tried installing the necessary driver for it. No luck. Any info would be great. thanks
