Ok, I'm a newb to laptops, but not a newb to desktops.

I just bought a Sony Vaio PCG-F270 that needs a new HD.

Q: Are all 2.5" Laptop Hard drives interchangeable ??

I know CPUs and Memory are pretty much type specific, but what about other laptop components ?? ie CDs, DVDs, PC cards, NIC ports etc...

A: Yes, laptop hard drives are interchangeable.

The CPU might not be, but the memory is a great way to get more performance.

Roger that.

It has 192MB right now. All the spec info I've found says that this is the max it will support. I find this hard to believe...... Can it support more ??

How can I find out if the CPU can be upgraded ??

I tried Googling: Sony Vaio PCG-G270, for details but nothing came up. Are you sure that's the model? Well, I don't think you can change the CD, DVD, or PC Cards but maybe some Add-on cards would work.

Really weird. I'm sure I definitely searched up Sony Vaio PCG-GR270. Looks to me that your Laptop can run up to at least 512mb.

Sorry....my bad....typo. It's a Sony Vaio PCG F270

I know it's old as dirt, but it's only going to serve a couple functions.

1) Basic Word processing and 2) As a Power Point presentation machine. Nothing else.

Just curious as to how much upgrading I can get out of it.
