Question Ugg, very wierd screen prob

Hi guys. My compaq presario R3000 laptop has been acting really strangely for the past few days.
The screen started to look really wierd, like the colors are all screwed up.
Then today the display somehow didn't fit on the screen (it was bigger than the screen so i had to scroll to see the whole taskbar )
And now the laptop won't boot up!!
all i see is these creen lines on the left side of the monitor.
any help is appreciated:confused

I don't think you can do much by yourself. My advice is to return the laptop to the shop you bought it from, and if it has a valid warranty they should repair it for free.
