Default Transfer large file to external hard drive

I use an Averatec notebook, and an external hard drive. The external has 149gigs of free space left and it will not allow me to drop a movie which is 7.9gigs onto it. The error I recieve says that there is not enough space on the drive.

Ive tried deleting about 10gigs from the external and it still says not enough room on the drive.
Ive transfered other things onto the external and they work properly.
If anyone knows what the problem might be I would be greatfull for any help.

Randy

what is the file system, FAT32 or NTFS? if it is FAT32 you can't have a file larger than 4gb

yea its FAT32, so I guess thats the problem.. Its a movie so I can split it or compress it, but is there an easier way to get around it?

Thanks for the help.
