Toshiba Satellite: DMI Strings Readjust

Toshiba Satellite 1415-S173 had the hard drive replaced. Now when it boots to a black screen that reads:
"A disk read error occurred
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart"

Basically it isn't seeing the hard drive.

Upon calling Toshiba I was told to send it in to get the DMI strings readjusted. I am a computer tech does anyone know if I would be able to do this myself and how? All I am told is to send it in to a Toshiba dealer.

yes you might be able to do it yourself. First off, this is an advanced process and you would have to run the risk of screwing up your laptop and voiding your warranty...but here you go

you would need to run the test and diagnosis utiltity (http://download.toshiba.com/sam33t1.exe) and refer to the DMI Instructions PDF (http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/support/downloads/dmi_instructions.pdf)
