Default Toshiba Laptop and BSOD

I'm doing a favor for somebody in my one class. She gave me her Toshiba Satellite A65 - s126 with XP Home. She sats it will reboot randomly, shut duwn or Bliue screen. I ran memtest86 and it came upblank. I let it run for about an hour. I also used Microsoft's memory test utility as well. Same thing.
Now I would like tocheckout the hard drive. I ran a Windows scandisk but I would like to get a bit deeper, maybe useone of those bootdisk utilities, but I can't findonefor a Toshiba drive. I'm going to try using Maxtor's utility. I used it oncebefore on a non-maxtor drive. The drive according to theSeagate utility is SMART capable. I'm hoping go do a surface scan. After that I'm going to reformat. She has a loooot of crap on here. Ihave a feeling its her Windows installation that is hosed, but I would liketo rule out any hardware before I go through the trouble of reformatting.
So is there a generic bootdisk hard drive utility?
