Ok, so I had a raidmax aurora(Spelling?) PSU, 600 watts, ran my system fine for years, well all of a sudden I tried to power up the computer, it was a no go, pulled main power cable, heard a loud whine, plugged it back up, tried turning it on, and i saw nothing but flashs, everything was pulsing kinda... So what are the chances that my PSU has taken out my hardware?

Next to none. Good PSU's will just fry themselves before any power ever gets to your computer. Always the slim chance though so try it out with another PSU.

reminds me of the best fried psu I've seen. plug it in without a mobo, just plug it in, unplug it, and the fan would turn on after it was unplugged. ran for maybe five seconds with no external juice!

So, what would you all recomend for a AMD Athlon 64 x2 4000+ with a soon to be here 8800 card? I need a PSU that is under $140 and be able to push everything EASILY

Uh oh....you let the magical white smoke escape from the computer didnt you. Pick up a corsair 520hx.
