those dreaded beeps

having some serious problems w/ my pc.hp vectra vl 400. most of the time it wont boot.fans come on but it doesnt kick on the monitor .if it does come on now it just gets to the hp screen then i get three beeps w/ a twizzling noise then three slow beeps.can anyone decifer the message ? harddrivebad or memory or mb etc.??

doubt its the hdd. do the usual and disconnect all but the essential hardware to try and eliminate possible causes. it could be a memory problem. usually the universal code for a stuffed cpu is just one long screech
