While running under normal conditions, no overclocking done of any kind, I'm curious if the cpu temperature being 75c is too high?

please whenever asking a question where the answer relies on certain information, in future it would make that answer more accurate if you supply that information.

please tell us the specifications of your processor, perhaps post a screenshot from "CPU-Z".

in any case though b1gapl is right, 75 degrees c is definitely above the desirable temperature range for virtually any processor. it could be potentially damaging if it is an Athlon but a Pentium 4 should be fine, don't take that to mean it shouldn't be fixed though.

Yeah, if the HSF is dirty, that may be it... Also, if it's an older computer, the thermal paste may need to be changed.

There's also a chance that the temps are fine, and you have a faulty sensor.

If you feel safe doing this, open your case and feel the air that is coming OUT of your HSF (Most HSF fans suck IN, so you need to find where the air exits), after your computer has been on for like an hour, and it's idle. If it feels room temperature or slightly warmer, you're probably ok. If it feels warmer (comparable to breathing on your hand), there may be a problem.
