system restore

hi,i am working on a friends system,when i first turned it on it would go as far as the black screen with win xp ,so i rebooted in safe mode,did a system restore,then it would finish loading,but when i try to get on the web it will go to home page alright,but when i try to go on another site,it tries to load site but then goes back to desktop,i did a virus scan,ran spybot,added more memory it was slow,nothing works,now it wont let me do a system restore,when i try the page comes up and goes away again,running xp pro,512mb memory.can anyone help.thanks

reinstall windows and wipe the entire system clean. back up all data that your freind needs and then any problems will hopefully be cured if that fails it has to be a hardware prob.

I would try a repair install first, then if that doesn't get it, seriously consider formatting/fresh install.
