As some of you may know I am looking for a surface for school work..... After looking online I have found 2 both having wifi wireless connection problems that it will not connect wirelessly but everything works out fine. Thinking I can just get a external USB wifi adapter dongle. Is it common for the wifi to break on a Surface or should I stay away due to it breaking because of possibly a drop.

I'm not aware of any wide scale Surface wifi issues. I've had a Surface Pro 2 since the first day they went on sale and have never had wifi issues with it. My previous employer supplied me with a Surface Pro 4 that I used as my work laptop and had no issues with it.

You could certainly use a USB wifi dongle with a Surface Pro (what model are you looking at?). Not sure about a Surface RT since it doesn't support installing drivers. However, on a Surface Pro, there's only 1 USB port so you would need to give up that port or use a USB port expander.
