Ok, I got back from a computer show with a DVD+RW OEM. I popped the drive in, hooked up the IDE cable, and turn it on. Everything is going fine thus far. When I put a blank CD-R in and I go to Nero, and I try to burn, the humming starts, then it goes away...hums...goes away. So this goes on for a good five minutes when it says it failed. I have had to restart twice due to the attempt of burning by this drive. I have checked the jumpers, I have put the drive on a different IDE cable, I have downloaded the latest firmware for the drive...nothing appears to be working. Any suggestions? I am extremely  and  because I think this might be a friggin dud, that I paid $30 for. What else is there that I haven't tried?!

Try it in a different computer.

Try a different program besides Nero.

Chalk it up to being ripped at a trade show?

Make sure the PCI cable is plugged in the right way? Does it fit in if you turn it around? Don't laugh, I've done it before.
