Hi,
My PC has for a while been making a short brief 'click' noise at random times when it is running. It is the same 'click' that is heard when it first booted up. I am wondering if the hard drive is on it's way out or maybe the fan needs replacing. The noise is not continous and happens maybe a few times a week.

I bought the comp back in 2002 and the specs aren't so happy either:

HP Pavilion 7925
Windows XP Home Edition SP2
AMD Athlon 'Thunderbird' 1,200 MHz
640MB RAM
GeForce 6200 256MB

Everything else seems to be fine, apart from the power loss upon reboot a couple of weeks ago. However the fan did once cause the power to go temporarily when it got jammed but it got fixed.

I don't know if buying new HD and a new OS would be more worthwhile
Maybe it's time to replace her altogether?

I would think the problem could be cause by a broken fan, although I am no hardware expert.

possible culprits:

1.hard disk dying run chkdisk
2.A loose wire connecting with a fan seen it happen a lot
3.fan dying i normally touch the fan to stop it for a second to see if its making the noise but not advisable if you don't no what your doing :)

Run a test on your hard drive... i know the dells i work with you can press f(something) and do a hard drive diagnostic test on boot. It will return a code value... look it up... it sounds like your hdd might be having a "seek" issue.
