Start up problem

This morning before work my laptop worked fine. I shut it down and headed out. I came back home and started it up or atleast tried do. Now everytime I start it up a message comes up saying

Invalid system disc
Replace the disk, and then press any key

I never had a disc in it this morning when I shut it down. So I'm confused, I cannot get around it in any way. Any help is greatly appreciated..Thanks in advance!

Did you check the CD-ROM and Floppy drives?

Did you check your boot priority config in the BIOS?

put in the last disk you put in there, or try putting in the XP cd or whatever system disk and put it in there and then press a key

Invalid System disc.. maby his harddrive has failed.

no point to jumping to such harse conclusions. The rule of thumb is to try the most simple possible solution, then work your way to more complex reasons/solutions to problems.
