Default Start Failure - Win XP SATA HDD with SATA DVD re-writer

Good evening,

I was running a Win XP SP2 OS with a small capacity IDE HDD fitted with a SATA DVD re-writer, IDE CD re-writer and IDE CD reader. Due to the limited capacity of the HDD, I installed a new SATA 200Gb HDD with the OS installed and the IDE HDD, re-formatted. With the SATA HDD in circuit, the OS fails to start - when the 'beads' run across the bottom of the screen, they continue to run and the system fails to start. When, however, I disonnect the SATA DVD re-writer the system starts and functions correctly. Please, can anyone help me resolve this problem as I would, really, like to have the use of the SATA DVD re-writer.

Thank you, in anticipation.

Do you have the SATA HDD as the first boot device? Not the SATA DVD Drive?

Yes, the HDD is the primary boot option

Do you have a powerful enough PSU?

Hello LexLuther, Yes, the SATA HDD works fine with the SATA DVD re-writer out of circuit. When the SATA DVD re-writer is connecte, on firing up the PC, the device is "seen" and listed but when it gets to the 'beads' running across the screen - the start-up 'stalls'!
