You can use IDE mode with SSDs. Just change it to AHCI in your BIOS, if you didn't install 7 yet.

You'll need to reinstall Windows then. There's a way around it, but it involves editing some pretty core system files... and I can't remember what exactly you have to edit. Easiest way would be to just reinstall if its a new install of Windows.

To enabled AHCI after a win7 install all you need to do is install the systems AHCI drivers, and turn the mode on in the registry, restart, then set the BIOS to use that mode instead, and no, it doesn't always work.

I just did a registry edit when I switched mine on my computer. It is not recommended to the novice.

No it isn't but that is the only way if you wish to preserve an existing install.

Reinstall Windows 7 preferabley with AHCI set in the bios beforehand. Also if you don't care about your files don't just format your SSD, go on the OCZ SSD forum for example and you can read all about the best and proper way to wipe and reset your SSD to optimal performance.
