speakers work in Linux but not windows :-S

have you checked to see what driver is being loading when using linux?

yep tried that

still not working; will be calling HP tonight when I have a few hours to answer the ridiculas questions they will ask such as 'is the notebook on mute?' or 'does the notebook have speakers?'

I am not an idiot; I know how to troubleshoot computers and notebooks so I am not looking forward to them doing their stupid checklist on the phone for a couple of hours; I wonder if they will listen when I tell them that the speakers no longer work and that they need to fix the problem asap some how me thinks not.

After I posted the last reply I relised straightv6 had posted about the linux drivers.

I am in linux now and the soundcard drivers it is using is the nvidia HDA drivers, the sound chip in the laptop is a Conextant HDA, maybe if i find the nvidia hda drivers for xp or even vista it might work.

Downloaded Realteks HDA drivers and the speakers still dont work; this really has me stumped; I dont want to give it to HP but i am going to have to.
