sound only plays right side noise

Recently my computers sound has been messed up. When the speakers are pluged in all the way, only the right speaker plays. What Ive been donig is plugging it in half way, and it plays the right side noise out of both speakers. You can also get it to only play from the left speaker, but it only plays the right speaker noise also. This gets really annoying when songs have certian parts that only play on the left side.

I'm sure its not my speakers or my headphones, because they work properly with other devices and it always does this with my computer. This all started happening right when i got home from college for christmas. Before I left it worked fine, so maybe something got messed up in the car ride.

The sound is integrated in an asus a7v8x motherboard.

Maybe someone messed around with your volume control. Go to Start>>All Programs>> Accessories>> Entertainment>> Volume Control. Once there check if the balance arrow is set in the center liek this:
