Sound issues

Hi all.

i am running a 5.1 speaker system from realtek HD audio and have it set to 5.1
when i test the speakers on the control panel all are working....however..
i have never heard the subwoofer working outside of the test.

how do i get it to work as everything sounds a little flat.

sussed it out.
just needed to check the 'bass management' box in the control panel

the audio mixer wont open from the taskbar
