Default Sound card not picking up microphone

Basically, my headphones are plugged in, they seem to be picking up sound perfect, but for some reason, my comp doesn't seem to be detecting a device to record, even though the headphones have a mic attached. My headphones didn't come with a disk for drivers, nor does the site. There basically plug and play, and work fine on my laptop.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks a lot. I've also checked all volume settings etc and upped/checked any boxes that needed to be, but still, no luck.

how does the headset plug in? 3.5mm jacks, or usb? if its the jacks, then both need to be plugged in(ear/mic {green/pink})

They plug into a jack, and yes, they were both plugged in correctly.

Did you build this computer yourself?

Check your MB to make sure the mic connectors are plugged in.

If you're using a sound card the MIC port is on the card, it doesnt plug into the motherboard
