My Sony DVD RW DW-D26a will not play DVDs. It recognizes them, and I can begin to play them, but once they get going the sound and video is very very choppy, to the point that it is un-watchable. The mouse lags a little also. This never used to be a problem, it worked fine for a long time, I'm not sure what changed it.

I've tried using PowerDVD and Windows Media Player to play the DVDs, both experience the same problems.

What's going on?

Thanks

How much stuff have you got running in the processes tab, close all the (user) started programs (user is your username) and try to play it then.

What OS do you have, as mentioned above while checking your running processes, also check your cpu usage. do ctrl+alt+del , click task manager, then performance
the pc at a steady state with nothing running but the OS and maybe your AV prog, should be around 2 - 12 % of the cpu.
If it is really high you may have a rogue or broken program or a virus / spywae / trojan.
