Sony DVD RW Drive not working

My sony dvd burner is not reading or burning blank dvds. It will burn basic cds but not any 4.7 GB dvds, It will instead show a dvd as having 0 mbs of free space or memory. I have a sony vaio Intel Pentium D 2.8 GHZ, 1 GB of ram. The device I am using is a Sony DVD RW DW-Q28A. Please help

Try another set of DVD's as it may be the DVD's that are dodgy. I had a batch of dvds that read as full but had never been used.

Seems that drive is fussy about the media used.

unreliable burning and disc detection, even after a replaced drive, led me to conclude that this Sony Dual Layer DVD writer is fussy about its media.

He gives a list of media he found to work reliably with the drive.

The ones that wouldn't work on mine where not a good well known brand but I subsequently bought sony + and they work a treat.
