ps this is where i found the answer, just not the complete one
The CD drive or the DVD drive does not work as expected on a computer that you upgraded to Windows Vista
and
DRIVER NEEDED: Sony Electronics AW-G170A (Windows XP Home) [IDE] - DriverGuide Support Forums

Don't delete all of them.

To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.

ok i think i found the right ones, but they specify it a little differently and idk if that makes it different from what you're talking about but it was the only one closest to what you were talking about this is what i mean

No, the one you have is different. Disk drives is probably referring to your hard drive so don't touch that one.
It must read Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM

ah its funny
I was looking so intently before i didn't see the first one on the list is the one i needed haha
besides the fact that it was separate from the group
I'll let you know what happens
