Default "Snowy" Screen

I have no idea how to describe the pictures. This "screen" would randomly pop up onto my screen, forcing me to hard reset. When it would happen, it would not return to the normal screen. I haven't had this screen since i've purchased an aftermarket heatsink/fan (ThermalTake Blue Orb II), but i have no idea if that "fixed" it, or i've just gotten lucky in the past two weeks.

BTW, the first picture shows the screen that first pops up. The second picture shows the same thing, only the pointer is in a different place. The third picture shows a close up of what would be the pointer. It moves correspondingly to my mouse movements, and i was actually able once to click on Start>Turn Off Computer, and managed to click "Shut Down."

I'd try either of those, but i am unable to find a way to continuously replicate the situation.
