Slow Pc overall!

Ok here are my specs:
p4 2.8ghz
1gb ram
x800 gto
30gb hd maxtor

Ok overall my pc is slow. Whether it was in windows (which had alot of fatal errors and barley runs now), starting up or just loading windows setup and installing is slow. Is my hd going bad or possibly some other part of my pc?

First:

Run AVG Antivirus (full scan)

Then:

Run Ewido (In Safe Mode)

Do you hear any noise coming from your HDD?

Yes. All possible defrags done.

It's hard for me to simply say, "Yes, It's your HDD that is failing you." In this situation...

However, If you have another HDD you can use to "Test" this issue, I would use it.

****, um how could i even tell if its going bad. Any diagnostic programs or anything.

If you have the original software, I would back up your files, reformat the HD and re-install windows, when you start getting fatal errors they are almost impossible to fix and your computer will just keep getting worse. fatal often have something to do with IE though, do you get them when you are in a program? and they kick you out of the program?

Well I am now having the issue of using the right xp disk (which I dont have anymore) just to accept the cd key. This sucks!
