Default SL-915GPro-FGR with ATI x800 XL problems?

Hi everyone,
Im very new at this but here goes nothing

I have a SL-915GPro-FGR motherboard, and a ATI x800 XL graphics card I just brought a couple of months ago, the graphics card runs fine most of the time, but whenever I try to change my resolution to anything lower than 1024 x 768 or try to run any full screen 3D graphics (suchs as games and 3D mark) the screen goes all static as if it cant support the resolution, I have updated the graphics drivers and the chipset drivers, but still no go... Im beginning to think it may be some kind of hardware incompatibilty, but any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated

Try tweaking your settings from ATI Catalyst. I've had similar problems that were fixed by that.

Asus P4P 800-E Deluxe, Intel P4 3.0 GHz
1GB RAM, ATI Radeon X1300 pro 256 mb
20GB maxtor, 250GB western digital
