Screen resolution wont go above 1024x768

I bought a 19" lcd monitor, but cant seem to change my screen resolution any higher than 1024X768. My video card on the computer is a Radeon 9600pro 256mb from2 years ago, could this be the problem? If not what can I do? I updated drivers on the monitor, video card and bios but didnt help.

What 19" LCD is it? What maximum resolution supposedly does it have? I would think it would be higher than 1024x768, but I wouldn't know unless I knew the model.
