Default SATA slow write speeds

Hi all,

I have recently noticed some problems with my SATA (Maxtor 120GB) system drive (I have additional WD 80G and a maxtor 20G storage IDE drives)
The problem is the PC is relatively slow (when music is on for example, with every application the sounds halts)
ANyway, I benchmarked the system and the read speed for the SATA drive is 150MB/S (or a value cloes to this) as it is supposed to - the write speed though is 4.99 MB/s - extremely low!!!
any ideas on how to fix this?

I have a KW7 Mobo, with an Athlon XP 2700+, and 1 G DDR 3200 (2 dimms).

Appreciate your help
