Question SATA 3.0Gb/s with an SATA 1.5Gb/s slot

I'm going to buy a new HD for my Sister, but her mobo is only 1.5Gb/s SATA. Will a 3.0Gb/s drive still function with this, or is it totally incompatible? Should I just get an older IDE 133 drive?

you're fine, SATA is backward and forward compatible with future revisions of the SATA

As said above, yes, SATA is backward compatible, you just won't have the 3.0Gb/s bandwidth you would have with a 3.0Gb/s compatible motherboard.
