S.M.A.R.T. status BAD, but disk health GOOD (??)

My hard disk (which itself is a replacement off of an RMA) is informing me that it is "failing" and "needs to be backed up and replaced". First I got an error reading

(not my screen, but the same prompt nontheless)

then I got a dos prompt while resuming from hibernation:

S.M.A.R.T. status BAD, Backup and Replace
Press <F4> to Resume

So I decided to start up Defraggler to find the problem...however...

I don't see any problems. Anyone? I'm at a loss.

I've never dropped it, and if I've ever bumped it, I doubt it was enough to cause damage.

Then unless you have a virus that is tearing it apart I bet it's fine. Backup any critical data and carry on.
