Retreiving lost files from hard drive

I'm tol dI can retreive files I lost from my hard drive, how to I go about doing this? Do I require any software to do so?

is it lost data from a formatted hard drive or dying hard drive? or did you just delete some files?

They're just files deleted when they should not have been.

Deleted how? Were they sent to recycle bin. Then bin was emptied.
