My harddrive recently bit the dust. My bios wasn't recognizing it at all so I assume there was no way to save it. so I was able to get another hard drive and insert it into my laptop. I am aware it did not come from the same brand of laptop. However my BIOS is recognizing the harddrive so that's something that my old hard drive didn have. When I boot up, if I boot up from hard drive first I get a message that says "Bootmgr is missing" if I boot from my reinstallation CD I get error code 0x80070017 while the computer is trying to extract files. Any help getting my computer running would be great.

Thanks for the info but I got it running. I just had to take the disc and create a bootable USB drive and launch it that way and it worked. Thanks though
