First of all I want to send out a big 'thanks' to the guy who sold me an AMD64 4000+ San Diego on ebay with 6 bent pins, one of which was bent over completely and had to be lifted off the ciruit board of the chip before being straightened enough to fit into the cpu socket. Also, cheers for leaving a shedload of artic silver paste on the back of the cpu. I really appreciate it

So onto my question (/endrant) :) I need to remove the paste from the back of the cpu before reapplying it. I know you can purchase special solution which would achieve this, but after spending the last 4 hours realigning the pins on the cpu and testing it works (and it does! boy was I chuffed) I don't really fancy waiting another couple of days to get hold of some. Is there any other method of removing the paste SAFELY and efficiently?

Cheers in advance for any suggestions.

(Oh, and lesson learned here. I'm never buying core components 2nd hand again)

Basically they used laquer thinner, goo gone, goof off... etc...
doesn't rally matter what you use.

ps. DOWN WITH EBAY ! ( /enrant)
: )
