Default Recovery through USB Drives

Hi all, i have been trying to restore my toshiba tecra m2-s730 laptop for a while now, the problem is the drive it came with is busted so i can't restore the system from it, and it dosen't have a floppy drive. I am going on holiday this weekend so i dont have time to send it out to toshiba to fix, I tried to boot from a external DVD drive but apparently you need a toshiba made drive to do so, according to some people. I tried to format the harddisk by connecting it to another enclosure and boot straight into it but that dosen't work also, because i can't put a boot sector on the drive or dont know how to . any suggestion on how i can do this. please help me someone.
