Read disc error

I was on my comp fine befor work... i come home turn on PC and it says.. "Read disc error" Does this mean my HDD is shot?

It could mean that. I don't know how techy you are, but if you have another hard drive, try putting it in, reinstalling the OS and see if it works. Usually, if your hard drive is in, connected, set as Master or cable select, and all BIOS settings are correct, but you still see that message, your HDD is crapped out.

It could have been a bad shut down or something like that which caused this error. Try runnign check disk.

I jumped the CMOS. then it would come up saying Floppy (40) or whatever.. so i went to BIOS disabled the Floppy boot up and guess what it boots right up. it is freaking weird
