Question re-installing an old hdd on another tower, os wants keys need help!

I''m not computer savvy that much is obvious, but i have a big problem.the tornado that tore through our county recently fried my old mobo.my hdd still works but the os wants a key to run windows.my legit key that ran the os when it was in my deep fried doo box naturally won't work now that its in the dell dem.3000.is there someway i can get around having to buy another key to work it?

nope, windows activation is stopping you from moving your hard drive to another pc. You can probably get a Dell xp disk for cheap and use the key on the Dell 3000 pc to activate it

You have OEM. And with OEM, it is tied to your motherboard. So if the board fries, you lose the license with it. Only thing you can do is call up MS and tell you your situation. They may actually just give you a new license.
