Default ram question

I just recently built a PC with 4gb of ram and the geforce 8800 gtx. The problem is is that its allocating about 1gb of my 4gb of ram to video memory, which I dont need at all because the video card has 768 already. How can I change it so tha tall 4gb of ram are used for system memory?

If you are using a 64-bit OS, try reading this: Only see's 3 of my 4gigs. Might help.
