Alright so my i have a raid 1 configuration set up between my two identical 1tb hard drives on my AMD Biostar motherboard. Just recently when ever I decide to start up my computer my raid status screen reports my raid as "status critical". It reports one of the drives is missing/failed. At this point I needed to figure out which drive (drive A or drive B) was failing.
To do this I unplug'd drive A while keeping drive B plugged into the computer. I started it up. I got the "status critical" message, which isnt surprising cause now one of the drive is actually missing, BUT when I boot into windows I was able to access all of my data no problem at all. This lead me to believe that drive A was the problem child.
In order to verify this I now unplugged drive B and plugged drive A back in. I started it up, I still got the "status critical" message. However, when I booted into windows I was able to access all of its data no problem at all. The one thing I noticed though was that when I just had Drive B plugged in, it reported that I had 503gb free, but when I just had drive A plugged in it reports I have 498gb free.
My theory is this. Yesterday I installed a video card, and crossfired it with my existing one. I think I accidently unplugged one of the drives while doing this. Then i started up my computer and started copying files to that "raid'd" drive. Later I noticed the error message. I replugged in the drive i accidently unplugged during the installation HOWEVER Now even though both hard drives are connected, they are no longer identical in file structure, so the raid is broken.
Is their a way to rebulid the raid off one drive to another? Or do I simply have too copy the data off one of these drives, format them both. Reset the raid configuration and recopy everything back. I'm not an expert when it comes to raid, so any suggestions would help. Thanks in advance.
