Re: RAID 0 failure; will a new RAID card fix it?
Interesting follow-up for those interested....I received the Promise card a few days ago and installed it, hooked up the drives and the same error was reported. (?!?!) So, in a final desperation, I hooked up the 2 drives to the on-board SATA RAID controller (I believe it's a Silicon Image controller on the ASUS A798X Deluxe board), and it WORKED. (?!?!?) I had been hesitant to try this because I assumed that the difference in controller type (especially on RAID 0) would corrupt the drives.
I got Windows booted up, copied the needed files to a flash drive, rebuilt the drives on the on-board controllers as a RAID 1 (mirror), and reiinstalled Windows. Voila. She's working like a charm.
