Okay, when I'm building a computer, and say a piece of the computer is DOA, how will I know which piece it is...

Like, how do I identify the problem.. if I have a bad memory stick... what will my error be... etc.. :|

What about HDD, mobo, PSU, CPU, etc...? And how would I check if a PSU is dead?

Also, how do you know if a mobo is dead from ESD?

All of this is hypothetical, I just want to know :p

depending on the error if lets say you have no signal to the monitor first thing you would do is replace the power supply and if that doesnt work then you replace the graphics card.

RAM: you hear beeps and verify the beep code is related to ram first you make sure the ram is seated properly then you take one stick out at a time to see what stick works and which one doesnt.

there are tons of different scenarios.

then you buy a new graphics card and put it in the empty agp slot and if you dont have agp or pci-e then you replace the motherboard or find a pci graphics card.
