Question about Sata ports

Are sata port numbers supposed to match ide channels?

ie: port 0 is ide channel 0?

My hardrive is in port 0 and showing as ide channel 2 master in bios.
My dvd rom connected with an ide cable is showing as ide channel 0 master.

I also have a Sata dvd rom im gonna install, does it matter what port i use?

Sorry for newb questions but haven't built a comp in awhile.

you can install sata optical drive in any port

except those designated for RAID

often the BIOS will count all drives as if they were IDE, counting upwards from the actual IDE devices. so if you only have one IDE port then the first 2 SATA ports may be called IDE channel 2 master and slave.
