Question about Cooling

i have my case on its side with cover off, for cooling purposes, since i made major gaming upgrades but i still have a stock fan (new one in mail).

im wondering, if i take a house fan (2-3 ft diameter) and place it above the computer on its side blowing down into it, even on low... would it do damage to the computer? would it help cooling?

or should i turn the case upright and blow into it...

I don't think it will cause any damage, a friend of mine used the same method to cool his machine and nothing happened to his.
