px-712sa problems

i have a cd/dvd r/rw from plextor model is px-712SA anyways i had to reinstall windows xp because it had a fatal error, basically it got blue screen of death before it loaded windows, anyways i got windows xp to installon it but if i put in any other cd/dvd into the drive the computer acts like its reading the cd but then the whole computer freezes up can anyone help me please

maybe the ribbon cable is bad, you might try a different one, if you can...

i dont think so the computer can detect the cd drive

so i guess no one knows howto fix this problem or just doesnt want to help
