Processor not recognized correctly

My comp has been running smoothly for a while now, but recently it slowed down a great deal.

I checked the device manager, and I says that my processor is a athelon xp 1500+, when in reality I have a athelon xp 2700+. I can't pinpoint exactly when this happened, but I think it may have been when I updated the bios on my ASUS A7N8X-X motherboard. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Why did you update the BIOS? Did you have a problem originally that made you update it?

First thing I'd do is make sure the CPU speed is on auto, and not manually underclocked. Failing that reset the CMOS by using the jumpers or pulling the battery.
