Default problems with motherboard

well the motherboard used to be dads until his ram stuffed up and recked the motherboard. he went and got someone to test the board and they said it was stuffed. however i tried it and got it to work (kind of). I'm having problems with windows freezing on startup and wen i actually get windows started it freezes when i connect anything up to usb or firewire so of course i cant use mi wireless keyboard and mouse and i have to use a standard ps/2 mouse and keyboard. The type of motherboard is a gigabyte k8vt800 pro.
