i have a serious problem and i hope i can find a solution for it here . i just bought a USB 2.0 to IDE/SATA cable which makes me easily connect my hard disks to my laptop . but once i connect my 30 GB samsung harddisk , the windows reads it as "Unknown Devices" . i tried getting the driver from the CD that came along with it , but the CD only has windows 98 drivers , and the installation guide says that in Windows XP there's no driver needed . now im sure that the device is working but the whole problem is the "driver" part , so i searched everywhere for a similar driver , i updated my BIOS , i updated my windows , still the same . please if someone knows where i can find that driver i'll appreciate it , or even a driver similar to it (that can read it as a mass storage device or something like that) .

1. Does your converter come with an externally powered source?
- Most common issues with USB devices is they cannot draw enough power through the USB ports.

2. USB drive is defective.

Wait for others to chime in if my suggestions didn't help
