Problem with Monitor

My monitor is flashing on and off. It seems to happen at random. I don't think that the problem is with the computer because the green light on the monitor goes all the way off and then back on. Normally, when it looses signal, it turns orange. It seems like if I unplug the monitor for a minute or so and then plug it back in, it is fine for a couple of hours. For this reason, I can't really test the video card with another monitor because I wouldn't know if the improved results were coincidental or not. The monitor is a Dell.

Are there any programs/ anything that I can use to see if my monitor is having a problem? It kind of seems like a power supply problem to me.

I had this problem, it turns out it is the heat. funny thing is i plugged it into DVI and it went fine

well mine is plugged into the DVI. How did you figure out the problem was heat? Is there any way to cool it down?
